2012 Volkswagen Passat at 2011 NAIAS Auto Show: One of the most highly anticipated world premieres of the 2011 NAIAS, the new U.S. market 2012 Volkswagen Passat, turned out to be one of the less exciting -at least in terms of design- introductions of the show. The Stars of the 2011 Detroit Motor Show: One of the largest and most important motor shows of the year, the 2011 edition of the North American International Auto Show [NAIAS], kicks off next week in Detroit. Even though many automakers are still keeping their cards under the table, Autonews published a list of new production models and concept studies that are expected to make their world premiere at Detroit’s Cobo Center. The list includes a variety of vehicles ranging from GM’s Chevrolet Sonic subcompact to Volkswagen’s NMS sedan which will replace the Passat in the U.S. market. GM’s New China Brand Baojun Launches first Car, the 630 Compact Sedan: SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW), GM’s mini-commercial vehicle joint venture with China’s SAIC and Wuling Motors, today rolled out the first Baojun branded passenger vehicle at its plant in Liuzhou, southern China. The Baojun 630 is a low price, four-door compact sedan developed locally using GM technology that will go on sale in early 2011 through a new network of dedicated Baojun dealers. Gillet Vertigo 5 Spirit: Belgian Supercar with 420HP Maserati V8: One of the most eccentric and less known supercars in the market, the Gillet Vertigo, which was created by former Belgian racing driver Tony Gillet, has ditched its predecessors’ 3.0-liter Alfa Romeo V6, rated at 350 hp, in favor of a more powerful 4.2-liter Maserati V8 with 420-horsepower.
