New BMW M5 F10 2013 with Twin-Turbo V8 Dyno: Manufacturer figures on vehicle performance are not always accurate. That’s why many road test editors prefer to verify the numbers on their own.

Some of them even go as far as dyno-testing to see not only if the output figures match those announced by the manufacturer, but also what is the actual power that is transferred to the road and how much is lost on its way from the engine to the wheels.

The first independent dyno test of the brand new 2013 BMW M5 was conducted by PP Performance on a MAHA LPS 3000 dyno and was published by BimmerPost.

Does the twin-turbo V8 powerhouse that nests under the hood of the F10 M5 match the 570HP and 680Nm (502 lb-ft) promised by BMW?

BMW 3-Series 2012 Sedan with M-Sport Package – Latest photos & reviews of BMW 3-Series 2012 Sedan: Usually, BMW takes its time to release information on the much sought after M Sport kits for its new models. However, that isn’t the case with the all-new 2012 3-Series as the Bavarian manufacturer also slipped out details on the optional M Sport packages for the premium sedan that goes on sale next February.

Scheduled for launch in the summer of 2012, the M Sport package comes with special exterior and interior features and it will be available on the basic trim level as well as on any of three equipment lines.

So what’s included in the package? For starters, it adds a lowered M Sport suspension with a 10mm (0.4 in.) drop in ride height, which works with firmer suspension and damping as well as harder anti-roll bars.

On the outside, there are 18-alloy wheels and an the typical M aerodynamic parts such as the bespoke front bumper and rear diffuser, along with chrome tailpipes, and the BMW Individual High-gloss Shadowline trim.

In typical BMW-pocket-digging-fashion, the Bavarians also offer optional extras for the…optional M Sport package including an exclusive M paint shade, an Adaptive M Sport suspension with electronically controlled damping, 19-inch wheels and larger M Sport brakes in a contrasting blue paint finish with aluminium four-piston fixed callipers at the front and two-piston fixed callipers at the rear.

As for the interior, there are sports seats in unique cloth/Alcantara upholstery, trim elements with blue accent strips, an M Shortshifter for models with a manual gearbox, M door sill finishers, an M driver’s footrest and the new M leather steering wheel.

BMW M5 V8-Powered in Frankfurt Auto Shows – Latest photos & reviews of BMW M5 V8-Powered Cars: Many consider the i3 and i8 to be the most impressive models on BMW’s stand because they are showcasing the company’s environmentally-friendly future.

Petrol heads, on the other hand, may find another BMW far more interesting. The all-new M5 may have been surfing the web since June, but the 64th IAA in Frankfurt marks its first public debut.

The subtle exterior modifications, as with all M-badged cars, were expected. What is a surprise is that for the first time, the M5 is powered by a turbocharged engine. You see, downsizing due to stricter emissions regulations is practically inevitable if you don’t adopt a hybrid configuration.

Therefore, BMW’s M-division had no choice but to abandon the normally aspirated route ditching the previous model’s acclaimed V10 and borrowing the X5M / X6M’s 4.4-liter twin turbocharged V8.

The smaller displacement engine with two less cylinders trumps its predecessor in raw power by a wide margin: it delivers 57 more horses, for a total of 560HP, and a maximum torque of 680 Nm (502 lb-ft) from 1,500 rpm.

Power is still transferred to the rear wheels, this time through a seven-speed double-clutch gearbox. The M5 accelerates from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.4 seconds and with the optional M Driver’s package can reach a top speed of 305 km/h (190 mph) instead of the standard electronically limited 250 km/h (155 mph).

Although power and torque have increased by 10% and 30% respectively compared to the outgoing model, average fuel consumption has dropped significantly by 30% to just 9.9 lt/100 km (23.8mpg US).

Frankfurt Autos Show 2011: BMW to Show New 1-Series Performance Concept and New Power Kits: While the new 2012 1-Series luxury hatchback and M5 sports saloon along with the i3 hatchback and i8 sports coupe concept will highlight BMW’s presence in Frankfurt, the Munich-based carmaker has a lot more in store for the press and visitors alike.

BMW will display a range of new accessories and Performance packages, as well as Performance concept car based on the new 1-Series.

The study was developed in cooperation with BMW’s M-division and it features a Performance aerodynamics package comprising of new front and rear bumpers, side skirts, a rear diffuser, bespoke body trim and graphics, and a roof spoiler.

Interior enhancements include sport pedals, a three-spoke steering wheel with a flattened bottom trimmed in Alcantara and a carbon fibre gear lever.

In addition, the 1-Series Performance Concept sports a tuned suspension, an 18-inch brake system, which is characterized by reduced weight and high thermal resistance, and newly designed 19-inch light alloy wheels.

BMW did not say when or if these features will be offered on the series production model.

For current and future owners of the 1-Series, BMW offers a power kit specifically designed for the latest inline-six engines of the 135i Coupe and Convertible and all versions of the 335i (Sedan, Coupe, Touring and Convertible).

The power kit consists of a modified engine management system that increases the 3.0-liter turbocharged engine’s output by 20HP, to 326HP, and its torque to 430 Nm (317 lb-ft) for models equipped with a the manual gearbox and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) for those with the six-speed auto or seven-speed double clutch transmission.

BMW Performance also offers a second, track-oriented version of the power kit, which includes an additional aluminum radiator with a very powerful fan.

For those who want more from their BMW M cars, the German company will present the M Performance line which includes new products for the powertrain, the suspension, aerodynamics and the interior.

The Performance M accessories for the X5 M and the X6 M consist of 21-inch double-spoke light alloy wheels, a carbon fiber front splitter, a black grille, new side skirts and a new rear spoiler and tail fins in black. In the cabin, the steering wheel is covered in Alcantara and has a flat bottom section.

BMW will also display two more additional accessory lines for the new 1-Series, the Sport Line and the Urban Line which offer options such as a specially designed bicycle rack, a new range of model-specific bags and (wait for it…) special, three-dimensionally profiled, all weather… floor mats

BMW Turbocharges X3 xDrive 20i 2012 with Two New Engines – Latest review & photos of BMW Turbocharges X3 xDrive 20i 2012: A pair of new turbocharged engines will soon be added to the range of the recently-launched BMW X3. These include a base four-cylinder gasoline unit and a flagship straight-six diesel.

The new entry level version of the X3, the xDrive20i, is powered by a 2.0-liter aluminum four cylinder gasoline engine featuring a twin-scroll turbocharger, direct fuel injection, Double Vanos variable camshaft control and Valvetronic variable valve control system. It delivers 184HP at 4,800 rpm and 270 Nm (199 lb-ft) of torque from just 1,250 rpm.

The X3 xDrive20i will be offered with either a 6-speed manual or, optionally, an 8-speed automatic transmission both of which (as the “x” denomination reveals) will direct power to all four wheels.

The second new powerplant is a 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel with twin-stage turbocharging and the latest generation of BMW’s common-rail direct injection system with up to 1,800 bar of pressure. It will power the X3 xDrive35d, which with 313HP and 630 Nm (465 lb-ft) of torque from 1,500-2,500 rpm, is the most powerful version yet in line-up.

At low engine speeds, only the smaller turbocharger operates with the compressed air passing through the larger one building up pressure. Thus, when maximum power is needed, an electronic controller engages the larger turbocharger promising “spontaneous response”. The xDrive35d comes standard with four-wheel drive, an 8-speed auto gearbox and an auto stop-start system.

Both the xDrive20i and the xDrive35d will go on sale this fall.

Other changes to the X3 include the revised Auto Hold and ConnectedDrive systems plus new interior trim options.

BMW 6-Series M Sport 2011-2012 updated: Diesel and xDrive Variants – Latest Photos & details of BMW 6-Series M Sport 2011-2012: BMW is wasting no time in enhancing the range of its recently launched 6-Series Coupé and Convertible models.

To sum up the changes, from this autumn (and depending on the market, of course) both body styles will be available with an M Sport package, a new diesel engine and for the first time in the 6-Series model’s history, the Bavarian firm’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system.

Starting with the M Sport option, the package includes an M aerodynamics kit with bespoke front and rear bumpers, LED foglamps, 19-inch M light-alloy wheels in double-spoke design, sports seats with Alcantara/leather upholstery and an M leather steering wheel.

In addition, buyers can further customize their cars through the BMW Individual range, which comprises, bespoke paint finishes, light-alloy wheels and numerous other options.

This fall will see BMW adding the 640d Coupe and Convertible models to the lineup. Both are powered by a 3.0-liter straight-six delivering 313-horses at just 4,400 rpm and a monstrous peak torque of 630Nm (464 lb-ft) between 1,500 and 2,500.

BMW says the diesel engine enables acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.5 seconds for the Coupé and 5.6 seconds for the Convertible. The fuel consumption and CO2 values of the two diesel models are: 5.4 – 5.5 l/100 km (51.4 – 52.3mpg UK or 42.8 -43.6mpg US) for the Coupe, and 5.6 – 5.7 l/100 km (49.6 – 50.4 mpg UK) with 147 – 149 g/km for the Convertible.

The 650i Coupe and Convertible models powered by the 407HP turbocharged V8 will be optionally available with BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system. According to the Bavarian automaker, the 650i xDrive Coupé powers from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.8 seconds, while the 650i xDrive Convertible requires 0.1 seconds longer to complete the same acceleration.

BMW X1 Small SUV 2011 with New 2.0 liter Gasoline and Diesel Engines – Latest photos & details of BMW X1 Small SUV 2011: BMW is extending its smallest SUV’s range by adding two new engines to the X1′s line-up.

The first unit, which will be available this autumn, is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine producing 184HP and 270 Nm (27,5 kgm) from 1,250-4,500 rpm.

The compact crossover will be available in both rear and four-wheel drive versions bearing the sDrive20i and xDrive20i designations respectively, and which accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 7.4 (sDrive) and 7.8 (xDrive) seconds.

The newly developed engine has direct injection and the Valvetronic variable valve control system. BMW says it sets new efficiency standards in its performance class, with average consumption ranging from 7.1 liters/100 km (sDrive20i) to 7.7 liters/100 km (xDrive 20i), and CO2 emissions of 165 and 179 gr/km respectively.

The second newcomer in the X1’s range is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel which powers the (rear-wheel drive) BMW X1 sDrive20d. It comes with TwinPower Turbo technology that incorporates variable turbine geometry and common rail injection.

Output is rated at 163HP and peak torque at 330 Nm (243.4 lb-ft) between 1,750-2500 rpm. An average consumption of just 4.5 litres/100 km and CO2 emissions of 119 gr/km make the sDrive20d the most efficient model in the X1 range.

Both models feature BMW’s EfficientDynamics technology, which consists of a gear change indicator, brake energy regeneration, electromechanical power steering, disengegable air-conditioning compressor, auto start-stop system and low-rolling resistance tires.

BMW Launches BMW M3 CRT Special Sedan 2012 Lighter and More Powerful – Latest photos & details of BMW M3 CRT Special Sedan 2012 autos: This is BMW’s new hardcore M3 sedan, the CRT, which stands for Carbon Racing Technology.

To be produced in a limited run, the M3 CRT was unveiled during a pre-race BMW M event ahead of this weekend’s Nürburgring 24-hour race.

The special edition model combines the body style of the M3 sedan with technology from the M3 GTS coupe, topped off with the use of carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) to further reduce the car’s weight.

BMW said the M3 CRT represents the worldwide debut of a new production process for carbon-fibre reinforced plastic components in the automotive industry, adding that we will see the same materials on the upcoming i3 EV hatchback and i8 hybrid sports coupe, due to enter volume production in 2013.

In the M3 CRT, CFRP is used to make both the rear spoiler and front airdam, as well as the bonnet, the bucket seats for the driver and front passenger. Along with the use of a sports titanium exhaust system and other lightweight materials, BMW M engineers have managed to shave 45 kg or 99.2 pounds from the regular M3 saloon bringing the total weight down to 1,580kg or 3,483 lbs.

Interestingly, BMW said that if you take into account the equipment on board the weight saving is more like 70 kg or 154.3 pounds.

Under the carbon-fiber bonnet of the CRT lies the M3 GTS’s upgraded 4.4-liter V8 that pumps out 450-horses at 8,300 rpm and peak torque of 440 Nm (324.5 lb-ft) on tap at 3,750 rpm.

Transferring the V8 lump’s power to the rear wheels is a 7-speed M doubleclutch transmission with Drivelogic. BMW says the CRT can go from zero to 100km/h (62mph) in just 4.4 seconds with the electronic capping its top speed at 290 km/h (180mph).

Other features include a modified rear suspension, the addition of six-piston, fixed-calliper high-performance brakes, a specially tuned DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system and new 19-inch lightweight alloy wheels wrapped in performance tires size 245/35 R 19 up front and 265/35 R 19 at the rear.

The M3 CRT is offered in an exclusive Frozen Polar Silver metallic exterior paint shade in combination with Melbourne Red metallic applications and a special treatment for the kidney grille.

Inside, apart from the two-tone sports seats, the M3 special features bespoke door sill strips, door panels and trim strips in aluminium grain structure, while the steering wheel is covered in Alcantara.

BMW will build only 67 examples of the M3 CRT worldwide.

BMW M5 2012: Latest photos & details for BMW M5 2012: These are the first official pictures of the all-new BMW M5. It is based on the latest generation of the 5-Series, the F10, and boasts all the visual cues that you expect from a car that has been honed by BMW’s famous M-division:

namely huge air intakes in the front bumper, side vents in the front wings bearing the M-logo, 20-inch wheels with 265/35 front and 295/30 rear ZR-rated tires, and twin tailpipes at either end of the rear diffuser.

As anticipated, the new model breaks with tradition by using a twin-turbocharged V8 (the outgoing M5 had a V10 and the one before that a V8, with the previous versions making do with in-line straight sixes, all naturally aspirated) sourced from the X5 M and X6 M.

Losing two cylinders and gaining two turbochargers seems like a fair trade, though, since the new M5’s output is up by 45 hp, from 507 to 552, and, more importantly, maximum torque has risen from 383 to 501 lb-ft (53,0 to 69,4 kgm).

All this power is directed to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (a 6-speed manual is reportedly considered an option for the US market) and is then put on the road through M-division’s Active M-differential.

The M5 is said to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 4.4 seconds and to 200 km/h (125 mph) in 13 seconds.

Top speed is, as usual with all German cars, bar Porsches, electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph), although the optional M-Drivers Package will raise it to 305 km/h (190 mph).

BMW Frozen Black M3 Coupe 2011 Launches for North America with price $21,000 – Latest photos & details of BMW Frozen Black M3 Coupe 2011: BMW has dropped information on a new limited edition version of its M3 Coupe for the North American market.

The 2011 BMW Frozen Black M3 Coupe will be available in a limited production run of 20 units for the USA, each priced at a hefty $79,650 (~€55,500), not including a $875 destination charge.

So what does a $21,000 premium over the standard M3 Coupe get you other than a very happy salesperson and an even merrier dealer? Well, in typical BMW fashion, not much as the special edition M3 Coupe is a cosmetic package with some minor mechanical upgrades.

The two-door sports car is painted in a flat Individual Frozen Black hue and comes equipped with 19-inch GTS wheels finish in gloss black, with the same color being applied to the kidney grilles, fender vents and exhaust tips. The package also includes red-colored brake calipers, black leather interior with contrasting red stitching and carbon fiber accents, a 10mm lowered suspension and sport mapping for the EDC/DSC.

All special edition M3’s are fitted with the standard 4.0-liter, 414-horsepower V8 engine coupled with BMW’s M Double Clutch Transmission (M DCT) which lowers the 0-60mph (96km/h) acceleration time from 4.7 seconds to 4.5 seconds.

BMW said those interested will have to call to reserve the first nineteen 2011 Frozen Black Edition M3 Coupes by dialing 1-800-245-4269 starting from Thursday, June 16, 2011. The first nineteen cars will become available for delivery in late June with the production run to be completed by the end of July 2011. According to the company, the twentieth car will be held by BMW of North America and “may be sold at a later date”.

BMW M3 Carbon Fiber Limited Edition 2012 for China only – Latest photos & info BMW M3 Carbon Fiber 2012: Chinese customers love a good limited edition model and BMW tries its best to keep them happy. Not long ago, BMW had released the China market-only M3 Matte Edition and M3 Tiger Edition.

During the BMW M Legendary Experience event held in China last week, the Bavarian automaker lifted the covers off yet another special M3, the Carbon Fiber Limited Edition of which only 111 examples will be built at a price of 1.23 million yuan (approximately US$189,800 at today’s exchange rates) a piece.

As the name suggests, the latest special M3 for China is dressed in carbon fiber inside and out, while keeping the standard model’s mechanical hardware intact. It is offered in a white pearl metallic finish and comes with contrasting black stripes that run the full length of the body and decals with the name of the car on the doors.

On the outside, we find carbon fiber on the roof, and the new BMW Performance aero parts that include the front lip splitters, trunk spoiler and hood inlets. A set of gloss-black 19-inch alloy wheels round off the exterior upgrades.

Moving on to the M3′s interior, the dashboard and door panels get carbon fiber trim pieces while the black leather seats feature carbon fiber patterned material along with white stripes and piping.

Autos news 2011: BMW Reveals 2012 1-Series M Sport Package and Online Configurator, BMW is wasting no time in pushing the marketing envelope on its brand-new “My, what big eyes you have” 2012 1-Series as the Bavarian automaker has already released an online configurator on its German website only two days after the hatchback model’s debut.

Aside from allowing potential buyers and time-wasters alike to configure the 2012 1-Series hatchback, the dedicated webpage also serves us our first taste of the M Sport Package. The option group includes a new aero kit comprising of M parts such as the front and rear bumpers, a sports-oriented chassis set-up, and bespoke alloy wheel designs.

The interior also receives the M treatment with sport seats and door panels dressed in special upholsteries, aluminum trim on the dashboard and door-sills plus a sports steering wheel, handbrake and gear levers, and pedals.
