Volvo XC90 2012 Receives Mild Updates in Europe – Latest photos & reviews of Volvo XC90 2012 Cars: Despite being launched way back in 2002, the XC90 is still holding on in the sales front –even recording its best-ever year in the UK in 2010 with 7,000 units, and global sales of 37,000 cars. Now Volvo has decided to introduce some mild updates for the 2012MY.

Exterior modifications of the 2012 XC90, which will be available in October, include new LED day running lights in the lower front bumper, LED rear brake lights, a redesigned bumper bar, new six-spoke 18-inch alloys and, finally, the addition of roof rails to the standard specification of all trim models.

The interior sports a new three-spoke steering wheel, different aluminum décor and white lighting for the instrument dials, while the tailgate comes with a color-coordinated leather handle.

The updated XC90 offers the option of Bluetooth connectivity in its On Call system, which has been upgraded with music streaming capability and a new mobile application for iPhone and Android cellphones that enables the owner to view the SUV’s location on a smartphone and acquire information about things like fuel level and average speed and consumption.

Furthermore, the driver can perform a “car health check” displaying on the smartphone’s screen info about the engine oil level and pressure or the coolant level.

Volvo is also introducing the Executive version that boasts a number of standard features like leather seats that come with ventilation and massage operation. The XC90 is also available in the R-Design specification, which has a sports chassis as standard and new upholstery, door panels and 19-inch alloy wheels.

Volvo Electric C30 2012: Volvo is starting production of the all electric version – Latest photos and details of Volvo Electric C30 2012: After testing about 50 cars since autumn 2010, mainly internally, the Swedish automaker plans to build about 250 cars by the end of 2012 …

or more if there is enough interest, which will be leased in a number of European countries, including Sweden, Norway, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Volvo’s Australian division has also expressed interest in the car. “The C30 Electric is the next step in green motoring from Volvo,” said Volvo Car Australia Public Affairs Manager, Jaedene Hudson. “We’ve seen the initial information from Volvo Cars Corporation and have expressed interest in the car. The next stage will be to put together a business case to see if the car will be viable in our market,” Hudson added.

The electric vehicle’s batteries can be recharged from a normal socket, with a full charge requiring 7 hours and offering a driving range of 150 km or close to 100 miles. The C30 Electric accelerates from 0-50 km/h (0-30 mph) in 4 seconds, and its top speed reaches 130 km/h (80 mph).

Volvo S60 and Volvo XC60 2012 R-Design Models – Latest price for Volvo S60 and Volvo XC60 2012: At the 2011 New York Auto Show, Volvo announced that the 2012 S60 R-Design sedan and XC60 R-Design crossover will receive significant horsepower and torque increases when they go on sale in the U.S. late this summer.

Both the S60 and XC60 R-Design models are powered by Volvo’s most potent six-cylinder unit, the turbocharged T6 engine. Thanks to a series of upgrades, the T6 in the 2012MYs produces 325 horsepower and 354 lb-ft (480 Nm) of torque, an increase of 21 horses and 29 lb-ft (39 Nm) of torque compared to 2011 R-Design models. Maximum torque is now achieved from 3,000 rpm and remains available throughout the rev range.

Power is transmitted to all four wheels via Volvo’s second-generation six-speed automatic Geartronic transmission with sport mode with new valves and lower friction for faster gear changes.

The S60 and XC60 R-Design models are offered as standard with Volvo’s Instant Traction and Corner Traction Control system with torque vectoring.

“The jump in performance will re-define these two R-Design models. Along with styling and suspension features that set them apart from other versions, our two newest R-Design models will have a higher ‘fun-to-drive’ quotient. I see that as a positive thing, and so will car buyers,” said Doug Speck, president and CEO of Volvo Cars of North America.

Visually, S60 and XC60 R-Design models remain unchanged from the 2011 model year. The 2012 S60 R-Design is priced in the United States at $42,275 (€29,050), while the XC60 R-Design starts from $43,150 (€29,650).

2012 Volvo S80, V70 and XC70 updated and New Features – latest info of Volvo S80, Volvo V70 and Volvo XC70 2012:  Volvo announced that it will offer a number of upgrades for its new model year V70, XC70 and S80, including the introduction of the latest iteration of its infotainment system as well as refined D5 and D3 diesel engines with increased performance and lower fuel consumption.

The V70, XC70 and S80 are the first Volvos to feature higher performance versions of the five-cylinder D5 and D3 turbodiesels. The 2.4-liter D5 diesel unit now develops 215 horsepower and 440 Nm (324.5 lb-ft) of torque (up 10HP and 20 Nm respectively), while posting an 8 percent reduction in fuel consumption.

For example, the S80 D5 with manual gearbox returns a combined figure of 4.9 liters/100 km (48 mpg US) and emits 129 g of CO2 per kilometer, which are identical figures to the D3-powered S80.

The 2.0-liter D3 engine continues to develop 163HP and 400 Nm of torque, but Volvo claims the driveability has been improved thanks to the fine-tuning of the turbocharger.

Styling changes are discreet and include revamped headlamps with optional active xenon lights, LED turn indicators integrated into the door mirrors (for the V70 and S80), two new wheel designs for the V70/S80 and one for the XC70, plus new colors

The new model year brings the refreshed Volvo Sensus infotainment system with a five-inch or seven-inch color screen in the upper part of the center console through which the driver can access a range of settings, such as for the Collision Warning and Pedestrian Detection systems, the Active Cruise Control, lighting, climate unit and audio system. The larger 7-inch version also displays information and images from the navigation system, phone, reversing and panorama cameras, DVD player and digital TV.

Safety upgrades include the addition of the Pedestrian Detection system with Full Auto Brake, previously presented in the S60, V60 and XC60 models. The system uses radar and a camera to monitor pedestrians in front of the car and can automatically brake the car to avoid a collision.

Other additions include the City Safety system that can help avoid low-speed rear-end collisions, offered as standard on all three models, and also the Adaptive Cruise Control system.

Price for 2012 Volvo S60 T5

Price for 2012 Volvo S60 T5 Autos: Volvo’s US division has dropped prices for the Volvo S60 T5 FWD model, which starts at $30,795, excluding an $875 destination fee. That’s $450 less than the previous base price. The updated offer is also accompanied by a special introductory lease rate plan of $299/month, available until February 28, 2011.

The T5’s standard equipment includes among other things, power driver seat with memory, power folding rear head restraints, front and rear sport seats, leather steering wheel with metal inlays, dual-zone air conditioning, infotainment and 8-speaker sound system, Bluetooth hands-free phone interface, T-Tec textile upholstery and 17-inch alloys.

There’s no shortage of safety systems as well, such as Corner Traction Control by torque vectoring, Advanced Stability Control, Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC), Whiplash Protection Seating System (WHIPS) and a host of airbags.

Furthermore, the S60 includes Volvo’s Safe+Secure Coverage Plan, which means owners pay nothing to repair or maintain their vehicles for 5 year or 60,000 miles, minus when replacing the tires.

The S60 T5 is motivated by a turbocharged 2.5-liter 5-cylinder engine, delivering 250HP and 266 lb-ft (361 Nm) of torque – or 295 lb-ft (401 Nm) in “over boost” mode. Power is sent to the front wheels through Volvo’s second-generation 6-speed automatic Geartronic transmission. The 0-to-60 mph (96 km/h) sprint takes just 6.8 seconds, while the top speed is electronically limited to 130 mph (209 km/h).

Volvo V60 Diesel Electric Plug in Hybrid 2012:  The 2011 Geneva Motor Show will host the world premiere of the Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid, a near production-ready model that is said to return a very impressive 125 mpg US (1.9 lt/100 km), with CO2 emissions under 50 g/km. In order to achieve this, engineers entered a new variable into the plug-in hybrid equation: a diesel engine.

The V60’s front wheels are driven by a 2.4-liter 5-cylinder turbo diesel powerplant capable of 215HP and 440 Nm (325 lb-ft) of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. At the back, there’s a 70HP electric motor that powers the rear wheels and a 12kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

According to Volvo, the V60 Plug-in Hybrid “features the very best properties from three different car types in one sports wagon”, including an all-electric driving mode with a range of up to 32 miles (52 km).

“In order to get true car enthusiasts to think green, you have to offer them the opportunity to drive with low carbon dioxide emissions without taking away the adrenaline rush that promotes genuine driving pleasure. The V60 Plug-in Hybrid has all the traditional properties of a genuine sports wagon. What we’ve done is to spice it up with spearhead technology”, said Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO of Volvo Cars.

Jointly developed by Volvo and Swedish energy supplier Vattenfall, the V60 Plug-in Hybrid is scheduled to enter series production in 2012.

Heico Sportiv Tricks Out the All-New Volvo V60: Come later this month at the Essen Motor Show (26th November – 5th December 2010) in Germany, Volvo tuning specialist Heico Sportive will unveil its performance and styling bits for the Swedish automaker’s all-new V60. The tuning program for the station wagon model carries the same upgrades as the S60 sedan.On the styling side, the German tuning firm mounts a front spoiler on the original front bumper and a rear skirt with a diffuser that also houses the new tailpipes of the quad outlet exhaust. The menu also contains sport springs that lower the ride height and a choice of 18- or 20-inch multispoke alloy wheels.
Under the hood, there are various options, depending on the type of engine. For now, Heico Sportive offers a power kit for the 2.0 turbocharged gasoline unit, which adds an extra 47bhp and 50Nm of torque, and another one for the T6 engine that boost output to 330bhp and 460Nm. The tuning house said that further programs for the T3, T4 and T5 engine variants are under development.

Volvo S60 2011 with prices $38,550: Volvo Cars North America LLC is set to release its first (and arguably most important) vehicle since the brand was picked up by Chinese Geely: the 2011 S60 saloon. Barring any unforeseen problems (like the recent crash-mitigation ordeal), it should be picking up right where its forebear left off: trying to reinforce Volvo’s entry in the mid-size sport-sedan market.

Coming in at a starting point of $38,550 ($37,700 plus $850 for destination charges), the new S60 hopes to pull in buyers from the mainstays. BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and Lexus? Volvo wants to take them down to China Town.

Here’s how: standard all-wheel-drive, standard 300-horse T6, standard 18-inch wheels, standard Bluetooth / HD radio, and a standard “segment leading Safe + Secure Coverage Plan” (5-year / 60,000 mile coverage for New Car Warranty, Scheduled Maintenence, and Wear & Tear, with 5-year unlimited mile roadside assistance).

On the provided chart (click on the picture on your left) , the Volvo looks like a real contender. Mercedes and Lexus don’t even offer AWD for the V6 models, while the BMW charges a premium for it. A similarly-priced Audi with AWD only provides the 2.0T, which has 89 fewer ponies under the hood.

Only the 306-horsepower Lexus out-powers the S60, but the T6 trumps its competition in the torque department with 325 lb-ft.

Don’t forget, just because everything looks good on paper does not necessarily mean it translates into the real world. For that, we’ll just have to be patient for a head-to-head comparison.

Limited Edition Volvo V70 T6 AWD R-Design with 325HP by Heico Sportiv: Heico Sportiv has been putting together more stylish and powerful Volvos for over a decade. Now, the tuning firm has once again joined forces with Volvo to create a special edition version of the V60 T6 estate for the German market. It goes on sale this summer with a hefty €70,193 [about US$87,000] price tag in a limited run of just 100 copies, all in a metallic sapphire black shade.

This V70 T6 AWD R-Design is motivated by the firm’s 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 upgraded with a recalibrated ECU and a sport exhaust system that cranks out 325HP and a maximum torque of 460 Nm / 339 lb-ft, a jump of 21HP and 20Nm over stock. The engine is matched to a six-gear automatic gearbox with geartronic function.

Volvo says the estate accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) in 5.9 seconds [standard model: 6.9 seconds], and reached an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155mph). Average fuel consumption is 10.6 lt / 100 km, equal to 22.2 mpg US.

Heico Sportiv also treated the V70 T6 AWD with a sport suspension that lowers the estate’s ride height by 30mm or 1.2 inches, and big 19-inch alloy wheels complete with 245/35 R19 Pirelli tires. The car also comes with an extra set of original Volvo R-Design 18-inch wheels with Pirelli winter tires.

Aside from the standard R-Design package that includes color-coded door sills and bumpers, roof spoiler, mirror casings in a matt chrome finish and chrome applications for the fog-lamp surrounds, the special edition V70 also gets chrome exhaust tips and a special trunk emblem.

The R-Design package’s interior fittings include, among others, sport leather upholstery in anthracite with inlaid quartz-beige contours, R-Design aluminum inlays, multifunctional leather sport steering wheel, sport pedals and blue-background instruments. In addition, Heico Sportiv added aluminum door pins and a special edition plaque for the dashboard.

Volvo S60 Sedan Autos 2011 with prices from £23,295 in the UK: Volvo’s UK arm has announced prices and full specification details for the all-new S60 sedan that’s available for order now, with first customer deliveries in August. Prices for the mid-size sedan range from £23,295 for the entry-level D3 ES (163PS) up to £36,745 for the top-of-the-range T6 AWD SE Lux Geartronic Premium.

At launch, the new S60 will be available with a choice of two diesels and one petrol engine. The newly-developed five-cylinder 2.0-liter D3 diesel engine produces 163HP and 400Nm of torque returning a combined fuel economy of 54.3mpg UK.

Next up is the twin-turbo D5 diesel powerplant that produces 205HP and 420Nm of torque accelerating the S60 from 0-62mph (100km/h) in 7.8 seconds, while returning 53.3mpg UK in the combined cycle.

Last but not least is the newly-enhanced 3.0-litre six-cylinder gasoline engine that delivers 304HP and 440 Nm of torque. This engine powers the mid-size sedan from zero to 62mph (100km/h) in 6.5 seconds and onto a top speed of 155 mph or 25-km/h, while offering a combined fuel consumption of 28.5mpg UK.

Standard features on all S60 models include the City Safety system that automatically brakes the vehicle from speeds up to 19mph if the car in front stops, DSTC (dynamic stability and traction control), WHIPS (Whiplash Protection System), SIPS (Side Impact Protection System) and Inflatable Curtain airbags.

There are three trim levels, ES, SE and SE Lux. The base ES comes equipped with electronic climate control, cruise control, 5″ color screen, steering wheel remote audio controls, alloy wheels and leather steering wheel and gear stick, and 16-inch alloys as standard.

The SE trim level adds Tylosand textile/Vinyl upholstery, Shimmer Graphite aluminium trim, watch dials, Auto Dimming rear view mirror, Autofolding Power Door Mirrors with Puddle Lights, rain sensor, High Performance Sound System, Bluetooth, Rear Park Assist and 17-inch alloy wheels.

The top-of-the-range SE Lux combines the ES and SE specifications and incorporates Power Drivers Seat & Memory, leather-faced upholstery, Active Bending Lights and headlamp cleaning.

2011 Volvo S60 Sedan Car with New 1.6L and 2.0L Turbo Engines: Today, Volvo unleashed a slew of photos and details of its very promising all-new 2011 S60 sedan that will have its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show on the 2nd of March.
The premium model, which this time is aimed directly at cars like the Audi A4 and Mercedes C-Class, is described by Volvo as the firm’s most dynamic car ever produced, not only in terms of styling but also in terms of driving characteristics.

It’s sculptured shape with the coupe-like roofline was previewed by the S60 study at the 2009 Detroit Show, and even though the design has been toned down a notch, it remains very close to the (well-accepted) original concept.

“Its profile radiates so much coupe feeling that the rear doors come as something of a pleasant surprise when you examine the car close-up,” says Volvo Cars’ Design Director Peter Horbury.

Inside, the styling is equally fresh with Volvo’s designers paying extra attention to details and the choice of materials. The Swedes also claim that it’s more spacious that its predecessor offering 30mm more knee room for the rear passengers while boot opening has been made 107 mm wider than in the previous S60.

“The interior has a more extrovert attitude than before, but without losing any of its practical Scandinavian roots. The all-new S60 brings us up to a whole new level when it comes to the integral experience of colour, form, material and technology,” says Peter Horbury.

Volvo is pitching the new S60 as a driver’s car due to its refined chassis that is backed up by a range of electronic systems and the new engine line up.

The new sedan can be specified with a choice of two chassis – Dynamic and Comfort- with the differences concerning the dampers and the front and rear subframes.

In Europe, the newly developed dynamic chassis is standard, while most markets in North America and Asia will have the comfort chassis as standard with the sport variant available as an option.

All variants of the new S60 can be specified with the latest iteration of the firm’s self-adjusting FOUR-C active chassis.

Special features include the new Advanced Stability Control with a new roll angle sensor, the Corner Traction Control that uses torque vectoring to improve cornering and the available Pedestrian Detection system that can detect pedestrians who walk into the road in front of the car, warn the driver and automatically apply full braking power if the driver does not respond in time.

At launch the car will be available with two diesel and two gasoline units with three more petrol and one diesel to follow later on.

The most powerful engine is the 3.0-liter T6 petrol with 304HP and 440 Nm of torque that’s combined with standard AWD and second-generation six-speed automatic Geartronic transmission. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h (62mph) takes 6.5 seconds and top speed is 250 km/h or 155mph.

The new four-cylinder 2.0 GTDi (Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection) engine has produces 203HP and 300 Nm with acceleration from 0-100 km/h (62mph) taking 7.7 seconds with the manual gearbox and 8.2 seconds with the automatic. The top speed figures are 235 km/h (manual) and 230 km/h (automatic).

The S60 2.0T with manual gearbox uses 7.9 litres of fuel per 100 km equal to 29.8mpg US.

Volvo said that during the first year of production, the all-new S60 will also be offered with a 2.0 GTDi variant (T5) producing 240HP and torque of 320 Nm and a 1.6-litre GTDi engine available in two versions with 180HP (T4) and 150HP (T3).

All the GTDi gasoline engines will be available in combination with Volvo’s automatic six-speed Powershift transmission or a six-speed manual gearbox.

The range also includes two five-cylinder turbodiesels. The D5 with 205HP and 420 Nm of torque propels the S60 from 0-100 km/h (62mph) in 7.8 seconds (manual and automatic) while top speed is 235 km/h (manual) and 230 km/h (automatic).

Fuel consumption is 5.9 l/100 km (EU Combined, preliminary figure) or 39.9mpg US with the manual gearbox.

In addition there is the newly developed 2.0-liter D3 producing 163HP and 400 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h (62mph) takes 9.2 seconds (manual and automatic) while top speed is 220 km/h (manual) and 215 km/h (automatic).

With a manual gearbox, fuel consumption (EU Combined, preliminary figure) is now down to 5.2 l/100km or 45.2 mpg US

Both turbodiesels are available with six-speed automatic transmissions or a six-speed manual gearbox while the D5 can also be specified with all-wheel drive.

The most fuel efficient S60 will be the DRIVe version fitted with a 115HP 1.6-liter turbo diesel and a six-speed manual gearbox that returns 4.3lt/100km or 54.7mpg US.

Volvo said that the initial annual target for the all-new S60 is 90,000 cars with Europe (including Russia), North America and the rest of the world each accounting for about one-third of total sales.

The first cars will be delivered to customers in early summer 2010.

Volvo’s entire product lineup is in a state of change as the Swedish automaker works to update models with new curvy designs inspired by the brand’s revolutionary XC60 luxury crossover. The latest two models to receive the stylistic upgrade are the C70 convertible and C30 hatchback.

The C30 gets a new front end with a new bumper, grille and headlights. There’s also a new rear end using colored panels, as opposed to black plastic ones, while on T5 models large 90mm exhaust tips will be included. A new Orange Flame Metallic paint job (shown here) will also be offered, as will white wheels. In addition a sport chassis will be offered with stiffer bushings, a tighter steering ratio (by 10 percent) and springs that are 30 percent stiffer as well.

As for the C70, it gets a similar redesign and will now be offered in a new Flamenco Red Pearl paint (shown here). Out back, the C70 now also gets LED tail lights. Inside, a slight dash redesign helps keep things modern and luxurious.

Along with updating the rest of its product lineup over the next few years Volvo has said it will introduce diesel engines as well as diesel-hybrids to North America in an effort to meet the new 2016 CAFE standard of 35.5 mpg. Volvo has already announced a plug-in hybrid vehicle will arrive in Europe in 2012 and we’re likely to see diesel-powered models (which are big sellers for Volvo in Europe)
